National Artist Title for Dolphy?
I would not fault the people who gives this award every year because they may have stringent requirements for such an award, such as a formal education?
To give this title of National Artist for Dolphy would break their rules, very much like breaking the rules of an all-male club just to let a female in as member.
I would, instead, praise the awarders for stubbornly protecting the integrity of the award for the National Artist.
But, for Heaven’s sake, they do confer honorary degrees, no? Honorary sergeants, even.
So why not an Honorary National Artist for Dolphy?
After all, he is an accomplished performer in the art of comedy, sans education.
Hold on, was there ever a school for comedy in the country?
But you know what? Such an honorary award would also give an ovation to the awardees, should it happen.
